Tributes to ‘Statesman’: Indian athletes to dedicate Asian Games-2018 medals to Vajpayee

New Delhi : As a sign of tribute, all the medals which will be won by the Indian athletes in the Asian Games-2018 will be dedicated to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was consigned to flames with full state honours at Smriti Sthal here this evening. He died yesterday at the age of 93.

Chef de Mission for 18th Asian Games (CDM) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh while speaking to ANI today informed that the athletes will dedicate all their medals to Vajpayee.

As many as 572 athletes from India including 312 men and 260 women are going to take part in 36 sports during the mega sporting event. Besides, 183 officials, 119 coaches and 21 doctors and physiotherapists and 43 other extra officials also have been sent for the 18th Asian Games, also known as Jakarta Palembang 2018.

The competition is scheduled to be held from August 18 to September 2 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
