Jayanti Behera wins gold in China Open Para athletic Grand Prix Championship

Odia girl Jayanti Behera grabbed gold in the 400 metres event at the China Open Para-athletics Grand Prix Championship. She clocked 1.02 minute to win the medal.

Earlier, Jayanti had won silver in 200 metres with a timing of 28.50 seconds. With this, the 17-year old has qualified for the World Para-athletics Championship scheduled to be held in London in July.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took to twitter to congratulate the athlete.

Jayanti had suffered burn injuries in her hand and waist when she was a year old.
