New Delhi: Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore on Tuesday announced the launch of National School and College Games to tap talent from every nook and corner of the country.
Addressing a discussion on the U-17 World Cup, Rathore said the youth of this country will have to be provided platforms to showcase their skills in the field of sports and games.
The Minister said the government has decided to start for the first time the “Khelo India National School Games” in December 2017 and “Khelo India National College Games” in January 2018. He stated that both will be annual events.
The Minister said 1000 children will be selected in these Games and be given Rs. 5 lakh for eight years for their training. He said 1000 more children will be added each year.
Rathore had won an individual silver medal in the men’s double trap shooting event at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
