Men’s Hockey World League: India in tough Group

Hockey IndiaNew Delhi: Hosts India will face current world champions Australia in the inaugural match of the men’s Hockey World League (HWL) Final to be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from December 1 to 10, 2017.

According to the schedule announced by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on Thursday, hosts India are placed in a tough Pool B alongside mighty Australia, Germany and England.

Germany and England are reigning bronze medallists in Olympics and Euro Hockey Nations Championships respectively.

India will open their campaign against Australia on December 1 before facing England (December 2) and Germany (December 4).

On the other hand, Pool A consists of Olympic champions Argentina, European champions Netherlands, Olympic silver medallists Belgium and Spain.

The Pool stages will take place from December 1-5, followed by the quarter-finals on December 6-7. The semi-finals will be held over the next two days before the bronze medal match and the final on December 10.
