India Vs New Zealand: Kohli’s 31st ton goes in vain in 1st ODI

Mumbai: India lost the first ODI of the 3-match series against New Zealand by six wickets at the Wankhede stadium here last night.

Opting to bat, Team India posted 280 for 8 thanks to skipper Virat Kohli’s 121, who had marked his 200th ODI with his 31st century.

With the ton, Kohli became the second highest century maker in the 50-over format, surpassing Australia’s Ricky Ponting. He is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has 49 ODI hundreds and 51 Test centuries to his name.

Chasing 281 for victory, New Zealand suceesfuly chased the target with 1 over to spare riding on Tom Latham’s 103 not out and Ross Taylor’s 95. Latham was named man of the match.

“Tom Latham’s 103* and 95 from Ross Taylor takes New Zealand to a superb 6-wicket victory over India and 1-0 lead in the series! #INDvNZ”, wrote ICC on Twitter.

The second ODI will be played on Wednesday in Pune.
