London: India suffered an innings and 159-run defeat in the second Test against England after yet another batting failure on day four at Lord’s here on Sunday. The defeat gives England a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Trailing England by 193 runs, India were folded up for 130 in 47 overs in their second innings in the rain affected match.
For England, James Anderson took 4-23 to finish with nine wickets in the match and Stuart Broad shone with 4-44.
India’s Ravichandran Ashwin (33) and Hardik Pandya (26) made a 55-run partnership for the seventh wicket, while other batsmen struggled against the seam bowling.
Earlier, the hosts had declared on 396-7, with Chris Woakes finishing on 137 not out. Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya claimed 3 wickets each while Ishant Sharma scalped one.
India were all out in their first innings for 107 on Day 2 as the opening day’s game was washed out due to rain.
Chris Woakes received player of the match award.
The third Test of the five-match series will be held at Trent Bridge on Saturday.
