Bhubaneswar: If cricket has left the India and Bangladesh fans sparring on social media sites, athletics has brought them closer. In Bhubaneswar to participate in the Asian Athletics Championships, the athletes from Bangladesh, along with their support staff, are having a great time.
“It is my first ever visit to India and I must say that the contingent and I are thoroughly enjoying our stay here. The place is so clean and the people are large-hearted. Wherever we go, we are welcomed with open hearts. The hospitality is the best,” said Abdur Rokib, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Athletic Federation.
With 24 athletes, Bangladesh has sent one of the largest ever contingents for the event.
“We have pinned a lot of hopes on our athletes. They are completely focussed, as there is no other unnecessary tension. Everything is well organised,” he said.
“India has always been a friend of Bangladesh since the time it helped us win independence. With the sort of hospitality we are getting now, we are humbled,” said Rokib.
“In fact I am so impressed that I am inviting everyone from Odisha with whom I interact,” said the Bangladeshi official.
