Kendrapara: A youth was killed and his mother sustained critical injury after a bike they were traveling on was hit head-on by an overspeeding Hyva truck near Ichhapur cattle market under Kendrapara Sadar police limits in the district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak Das, resident of Olia village near Oratghat in Kendrapara district.
Deepak along with his mother Parbati was returning home from Kendrapara town after completing some work in the morning when the mishap took place. Near the Ichhapur cattle market driver of a speeding Hyva which was coming from the opposite direction lost control over the wheels and ended up hitting the bike from the front.
While Deepak died on the spot his mother sustained critical injury in the crash. She was rushed to Kendrapara DHH by some locals immediately.
Police have seized the body for autopsy after reaching the spot and is trying to trace the Hyva which managed to escape from the spot after the accident.
