Bengaluru: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa resigned on Saturday before facing a crucial trust vote in the Karnataka Assembly with numbers stacked against the BJP in the newly elected House.

The resignation came barely two days after he took oath as the 15th Chief Minister of the state.

Before stepping down as CM, Yeddyurappa in his about 20 minutes of emotional speech he berated the Siddaramaiah government for not helping farmers. He resigned citing lack of numbers.

BS Yeddyurappa did not stay to face a trust vote he had no chance of winning. He thanked the voters of Karnataka and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Then without facing the floor test he announced he was going to the Raj Bhavan to put in his papers.

Meanwhile, Congress, which today accused Yeddyurappa of bribing one of its MLAs, said that “B.S’s resignation is the victory of the rule of law and constitution Our MLA resisted arm-twisting tactic by the Central government,” said senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.

When asked when he will take oath as Chief Minister, JD(S) chief HD Kumaraswamy said, “We are waiting for invitation from the Governor’s House.”
