Woman Maoist surrenders in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: K Lakshmi alias Sweta alias Kumari, a hardcore female Maoist carrying a Rs. 4 lakh reward on her head, surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Malkangiri district of Odisha on Thursday.

Lakshmi was working as Area Committee Member (ACM) of Malkangiri-Koraput-Vishaka-Border Division (MKVB) under Andhra -Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOB-SZC) of outlawed CPI (Maoist) Organisation from the year 2008 to 2018.

She is wife of Maoist leader Dhananjay Gope alias Sudheer, who has been working as ACM of Gumma area in the district. Sources said, her husband is also willing to surrender before the police.

Lakshmi will get monetary assistance as per ‘Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Government of Odisha’ and financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and training in a trade/vocational institution of her choice, said Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.

It is suspected that she was involved in Damanjodi attack on 12 April in 2009, exchange of fire near Daudaput on 17 September in 2014, exchange of fire near Jamjodi on 3 September in 2014, Killing of two civilians of village Silakota on 25/26 January 2014, exchange of fire near village Gobarpada on 20 June in 2015, exchange of fire near Ramaguda on 24 October in 2016.

She was also allegedly involved in killing of Kattama of village Gusumpadar on 12 December in 2016, burning of JCB machine near village Pipalpadar on 19 December in 2017 and burning of JCB and proclain machine near village Mudulipada on 17 December in 2017.
