Paralakhemundi: A woman and her two minor sons died after drowning in a pond at Garabandha village under Gosani block in Gajapati district on Tuesday evening.
One Banitri Sahukar along with her husband and two sons namely Subham (12) and Bachchan (10) went to the village pond at around 8 PM for taking bath.
After reaching the pond, Banitri’s husband Jageswar went to attend nature’s call while Banitri started washing clothes. Sometime later, Subham and Bachchan went to take bath in the pond.
Both the minors started drowning when they went to the deep water and cried for help. Noticing them in danger, Banitri jumped into the pond in a bid to save her children but unfortunately all three of them died on the spot.
To his surprise, when Jageswar returned to the pond, found the bodies of his wife and sons floating on the water. He rushed to the village and informed the locals about the matter, who went to the pond and fished out the bodies.
Local police also arrived on the spot after getting information about the incident. Police also initiated an investigation into the matter by registering a case of an unnatural death.
Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for postmortem.
