Arun SinghBhubaneswar: Coming down heavily on the Odisha Government and State Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout over Bargarh farmer Brunda Sahu’s suicide incident, BJP State in-charge Arun Singh claimed that the State government had failed to address the issues of farmers.

“A farmer suffers crop damage and burns his produce out of frustration that government is not listening to him, not taking any steps to solve his problem. At this juncture, the State Agriculture Minister gives such an irresponsible statement which hurts the farmers’ community. Such Minister should be ashamed and sacked,” said Singh targeting Odisha Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout.

Even not sparing Naveen Patnaik on the issue, Singh said the Chief Minister never takes any concrete step to solve issues surrounding farmers and agriculture in the state. He ends his duty by only writing letters to the Central Government, which means nothing, added Singh.

Singh also touched the topic of recent upgradation of India’s rating by US credit rating agency Moody’s and gave credit to various developmental programmes of the BJP-led Modi government at the Centre for it.

“Due to the historical reforms like demonetisation and GST, the country has registered an increase of 218% in increase in digital payment system and has created 56 lakh new tax payers,” claimed Singh.

However, Rout mocked at Singh for his remarks and said he should leave politics and rather become DGP of Odisha. Dama said the farmers have been affected by natural calamities and the state government has taken steps in advance for them. He cautioned Singh against playing politics in this connection.
