Wanted criminal held in Cuttack after encounter

Cuttack: In yet another police encounter in the state, the Commissionerate Police arrested wanted criminal Tapan Nayak from the city in the wee hours of Saturday.

Tapan, a resident of Jobra Nadikula Sahi in the city was on police’s radar for his involvement in at least 12 cases under Arms, POCSO, Excise and ITP Acts at different police stations in the district.

A raid was conducted by police on Tapan’s hideout on Mahanadi River bank at around 12 o’clock in the night after getting a tip-off on his movement. During the encounter the wanted criminal tried to give police a slip and opened fire at cops. Madhupatna Police Station IIC Debi Patra along with a Constable sustained bullet injury in the firing. Later on, Tapan was nabbed after sustaining a bullet injury on his left thigh in retaliatory firing by police.

Tapan was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital following the encounter and his condition is stated to be stable.
