Voting for Presidential election underway in Odisha

Presidential election Bhubaneswar: Voting for the post of the next President of India is underway in the Committee Room no- 54 of the State Assembly here on Monday.

The voting began at 10 AM and will conclude at 5 PM.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra was the first legislator to cast the vote.

Till the filing of this report, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also exercised his franchise.

As many as 149 MLAs and MPs are casting their votes for NDA’s Presidential nominee Ramnath Kovind and his contender United Progressive Alliance (UPA) nominee Meira Kumar.

Food & Civil Supplies, Cooperative Minister Surjya Narayan Patro is the polling agent for Kovind while Congress spokesperson Ganeswar Behera is the polling agent of Meira Kumar.

Earlier, the ruling BJD, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, had declared support for the NDA nominee for the Presidential poll.

The Electoral College for the President’s election comprises MLAs, elected members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The counting will take place on July 20 and the winning candidate will be sworn-in on July 25.
