Voting for Attabira, Hindol NACs underway amid tight security

Bargarh/Dhenkanal: Voting for the Attabira and Hindol Notified Area Councils (NACs) started this morning with a large turnout of voters at all booths. Elaborate security arrangement has also been made by the police for smooth conduct of the election.

The voters made beelines before polling booths in Attabira in Bargarh district much before 8 a.m. when the voting was to start officially. Polling would continue till 5 PM in the afternoon in which at least 13,000 voters would exercise their franchise to elect 12 candidates among a total of 38 in the race. At least 13 polling booths have been set up for a total of 12 Wards in the NAC for which the election is being held.

Women voters were seen in a larger number during the first hour of the polling. They insisted to go for the right candidate who would work towards the development of the infrastructure in the area.

Similarly, voting is being held at all 16 Wards of Hindol NAC in Dhenkanal district for which an equal number of booths have been set up. While BJD, Congress and BJP have fielded 16 candidates each in the election, at least six independents are also contesting this year. Around 9,704 voters would cast their votes today in the NAC.

Dhenkanal Sub-Collector Bhabesh Kumar Nayak said, “An ASI rank officer and three police officials have been engaged on duty at each booth. Similarly, four sector officers, three sector magistrates and ample number of security personnel have been pressed into action for smooth conduct of the poll as all 16 booths have been identified as sensitive.”

The counting of votes for both the NAC would be held on April 5.
