Sambalpur: Proving traffic rule violation to be costly, a cop was fined for driving without a helmet in Ainthapali area in the district on Friday.
The cop identified as B Minj was seen driving his Scooty (Registration No. OD 15 J 2689) sans a helmet in a video which went viral on various social media sites, starting on Thursday. He was seen driving through the busy streets of Ainthapali area.
Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora ordered for fine collection from the accused cop after Traffic Department received sharp criticism over the issue. A fine of Rs 140 was collected from Minj following the order.
However, the act of police was seen as mere eyewash by locals in the area. They claimed police showed leniency towards Minj and collected only Rs 140 where the amount stands at Rs 200 as per the traffic rule. Similarly, a false registration number of the Scooty was mentioned in the fine bill of the cop challenging police’s honesty and integrity.
