VIMSAR Row: PG students put on hold cease-work agitation Burla: The Post Graduate (PG) students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) put their five-day long cease-work agitation on hold following discussion with Health Minister Pratap Jena on Thursday.

The students of the medical college and hospital had launched an indefinite cease-work agitation demanding the removal of VIMSAR’s Director Aswini Pujahari from his post.

They sought Pujahari’s ouster claiming that he was too high-handed in suspending two senior doctors for dereliction of duty and allegedly doing private practice during duty hours. The Director had himself caught them red handed through a sting operation.

However, Pujahari had got massive support from the locals, who demanded the arrest of the students who had pelted stone at the director’s residence. Claiming that Pujahari was innocent, they had also called for a dawn to dusk bandh in the town.

With the face-off of the students and director, indoor patients were the worst sufferers. Therefore, the Health Minister had earlier urged the agitators to withdraw their cease-work and resume duty. Later, as they continued their stir, the Odisha government on Tuesday had ordered 116 medical PG pass-outs to join duty in VIMSAR on  a temporary basis.
