Balasore: With no respite in sight from the growing sexual violence against women in the state, three forest officials were mercilessly beaten up by locals in Tenda village in Sajanagarh panchayat under Nilagiri police limits in the district last night, after attempting to rape a woman.
The accused have been identified as Forest Guard Anjan Das, ‘Sabuja Bahini’ workers Ganeshwar Biswal and Budhiram Murmu.
The incident took place late in the night while the victim woman was camping at her scaffold setup to guard paddy crops at a farmland under Sataghati Dam. The accused trio along with a colleague reached the scaffold and tried to sexually assault the woman after overpowering her. However, some neighbours reached out to help the victim immediately after hearing her screams and nabbed three of the accused. Another managed to escape from the spot.
Angry villagers roughed up the caught accused for hours before police reached the village and took them into custody.
Police have registered a case in the incident and are trying to trace the absconding accused.
