Van Mahotsav: KITT, KISS to plant 50,000 trees

Van Mahotsav @ KITT, KISSBhubaneswar: The premier education institutions in Odisha KITT and the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) are going to plant as many as 50,000 trees this year in their campuses here.

Founder of KITT and KISS Dr Achyuta Samanta on Friday morning inaugurated the Van Mahotsav programme at the KISS campus in the capital city in the state by planting new saplings. Thousands of students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff members of KITT and KISS were present on the occasion.

Samanta appealed to the students of these two institutions to plant saplings wherever they find an opportunity in the days ahead.

Over two lakh different kinds of trees, including various medicinal plants, have already been planted inside both the campuses.

Van Mahotsav or Forest week is an annual tree-planting festival, observed from July 1 to 7 across India by planting saplings. Started in 1950 by the Ministry of Agriculture, millions of saplings are planted during the week to increase green cover across the nation.
