‘Unwell’ Naveen unfurls tricolour at 71st I-Day celebration

Naveen PatnaikBhubaneswar: Despite feeling ‘unwell’ due to the scorching heat and searing humidity, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik hoisted the tri-color and took salute at an impressive parade on the occasion of the 71st Independence Day celebration at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here today. The CM waited till the end of the parade at the venue despite his all-too-visible sickness. .

Addressing the large crowd assembled at the parade ground on the occasion after unfurling the national flag, Patnaik extolled the glorious past of the state citing the examples of Paika Rebellion as a burning example of Odia valour. He also listed the achievements of his government and claimed poverty had been brought down significantly during its long tenure.

Naveen, who felt unwell during the I-Day celebration and was seen being helped by security personnel to the podium, waited patiently for the parade to get over before leaving the venue.

A total of 54 troupes took part in the march-past held at the parade ground this year with   ITPP, Odisha Swift Action Force, ODRAF contingents being included for the first time. Around 25 platoons of security personnel, led by 200 officers, were deployed at the I-Day celebration venue to take care of the law and order situation.

Sources in the CM’s Office said he is doing well now and would attend all pre-scheduled programs for the day. Doctors on duty for Naveen found no serious health issues during his check-up.
