New Delhi: Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Union Minister for Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh jointly launched the e-Rashtriya Kisan Agri Mandi (e-RaKAM) portal in New Delhi on Tuesday.
e-RaKAM is a first of its kind initiative that leverages technology to connect farmers from the smallest villages to the biggest markets of the world through the internet. It aims to bring farmers, PSUs, civil supplies department and buyers on a single platform to ease the selling and buying process of agricultural products.
Paswan said the initiative would be helpful but it would face difficulties in the initial period.
“The e-RaKAM will help us and farmers hugely. Initial hurdles will be there as most of our farmers are illiterate and are in bad condition. However, every new thing comes with its own difficulties. That will be managed with time”.
Under this initiative, e-RaKAM centres are being developed in a phased manner throughout the country to help farmers to sell their produce online. The farmers will be paid through e-Payment with their dues directly credited to their bank accounts.
