Under-trial prisoner escapes from court in Odisha

Angul: An under-trial prisoner who was accused of murdering four persons including a woman escaped from the Angul District and Sessions Judge Court premise on Friday.

The escaped prisoner identified as Jhasketan Rout alias Jharu was produced before the court by police for hearing in the morning. A few minutes later he went to attend the nature’s call in an urinal located on the court’s premise and escaped by breaking its window grills.

Jhasketan is accused of murdering Hirankshya Sahu and his cousin brother of Kusakila village under Jarapada Police Station limits in Angul district over business rivalry last year. He is also accused of killing Abala Gadnayak and her nephew Kumuda Gadnayak of Kukurpeta area under Chhendipada police limits in August, 2015. In both the cases the accused had buried the bodies in pits located near a village school.

The accused was behind the bars since being caught by police on February 12, 2016.
