Bargarh: Launching a crackdown on corrupt officials, the Vigilance sleuths conducted raids on office and residences of at least two Assistant Engineers of Irrigation Department in the district on Tuesday for amassing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Raids were conducted at 10 different places and were carried out simultaneously, informed a Vigilance official.
A team of anti-corruption bureau officials led by Bargarh Vigilance DSP PK Nayak started up with Atabira Canal Division Assistant Engineer Ghanshyam Seth’s residence located in Bargarh town in the morning and verified his land records, bank passbooks and other vital documents. Seth’s parental home at Sikiti, his brother’s house in Barpali, and his in-laws’s house in Sonepur district were also raided by separate teams of the Vigilance.
Later on, a Vigilance team from Bargarh went on raiding Kalahandi Ret Irrigation Project Assistant Engineer Rashanand Majhi’s residence located in Sibanand Nagar in Bargarh town. Raids were also conducted at Majhi’s office and three other properties including his parental house and in-law’s residence located in the district on the allegation of accumulating disproportionate assets (DA).
Details are awaited in both the cases as the raids were underway till this report was being filed.
