Bhubaneswar: In a bid for better traffic management in the Twin City of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate police introduced body and dashboard cameras for the traffic personnel here on Saturday.

Police Commissioner YB Khurania inaugurated the new project and handed over the cameras to the traffic cops at Traffic Police Station near AG Square.

Sources said, around 240 body and 16 dashboard cameras have been distributed to the traffic police in the first phase.

The traffic police officials will wear the body camera on their chest to keep vigil on the bikers and car drivers violating traffic rules. The camera will also be attached to the vehicles of ACP and two Inspectors.

While briefing the media about the new move, Police Commissioner said that the body camera can record the audio and video for over four hours a day. A senior traffic police officer will check the camera on daily basis, he added.

Khurania further informed that a standard operating procedure (SOP) has been prepared and training has already been given to the traffic personnel on how to use the gadgets and record incidents so that action can be taken against the traffic violators.
