Tsunami mock drill in Odisha on Nov 24

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to deal with possible Tsunami in the state effectively and enhance the ability to respond faster and better in an organised manner, a mock drill will be held along Odisha coast on November 24.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) will organise the mock drill in collaboration with Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and co-ordinated by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

As many as 328 villages of six coastal districts – Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur and Puri – have been identified as Tsunami-prone in the state.

The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Block and Urban administrations and response forces like NDRF, ODRAF, Fire Services and Civil Defense along with Defense forces like Indian Navy and Indian Coast-Guard will take part in the mock exercise.

The SRC has clarified that the mock drill is a dummy drill and the public should not be panick.

The Mock drill will also be conducted in other Eastern Coast states and UT  like Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
