Balasore: Much to the shock of the commuters a matchbox-laden truck was completely reduced to ashes at Phuladi Square on NH-16 in the district today, after it was struck by another truck coming from the opposite direction.
However, no casualty was reported in the accident as the driver and helper of the truck managed to move out of the vehicle.
The mishap took place early in the morning today while the ill-fated truck was heading to Kolkata from Balasore. Driver of another lorry truck laden with iron TMT bars coming from Kolkata failed to detect it, presumably due to dense fog and ended up smacking into it from the front.
While the TMT bar-laden truck got badly mangled in the crash the matchbox-laden truck developed a short circuit due to the collision and caught up fire.
Soro Police along with fire brigade teams from Balasore rushed to the spot to douse the flames, immediately. However the truck was reduced to ashes completely due to the presence of the flammable items.
Police have launched an investigation.
