New Delhi: Hours before the introduction of the historic Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha today, senior BJD MP Prasanna Acharya clarified that ruling party of Odisha will demand reference of the Bill to the Select Committee.

Acharya, while speaking exclusively to Kalinga TV said, “BJD does not oppose the entire Bill, but some portion of the Bill as there are certain confusions and contradictions. These portions of the Bill need to be discussed and therefore we would demand that the Bill should be referred to the Select Committee.”

Reacting to Prasanna Acharya’s statement over the Bill, Odisha BJP Legislative Party leader KV Singh Deo said that MP Acharya’s statement exposes BJD’s double standards as its current stand is at variance with what it had said earlier.

Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will move the Bill in the Upper House of the Parliament today for consideration and passage. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill-2017 was passed at the Lok Sabha on December 28, 2017.
