Trailer truck-SUV collision leaves 2 dead, 1 injured in Sundergarh

Sundergarh: At least two persons were killed and another sustained critical injury in a head-on collision which took place between a coal-laden trailer truck and a SUV in Kanika area under Hemgiri police station area on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Jatindra Rai of Hemgiri and Sukuru Oram of Luabahal villages in the district. The identity of the lone injured person in the incident couldn’t have been ascertained so far.

The mishap took place in the afternoon while a ‘Jeep Commander’ carrying a number of passengers was on its way to Hemgiri from Kanika area. Driver of a speeding trailer truck which was coming from the opposite direction lost control over his vehicle, due to reckless driving and came extremely right on the road right in front of the Brahmani Dhaba before dashing against the SUV.

The impact of the collision was so serious that both the vehicles got completely mangled in the crash leaving Jatindra and Sukuru dead on the spot. Another person who sustained critical injury in the accident was rushed to Sundergarh DHH in critical condition.

Hemgiri Police has seized the mangled vehicles reaching the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the driver of the trailer truck, who is absconding since the incident.
