Tigress ‘Rebati’ dies at Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: A tigress named ‘Rebati’ died due to old age complications in the Nandankanan Zoological Park here early this morning. ‘Rebati’ was 18.

According to Deputy Director of the Zoo Jayant Das, ‘Rebati’ was not keeping well for the last two months due to old age related ailments. Besides, the animal was suffering from loss of appetite and digestive disorders.

The tigress, which was born to Rohit and Shailaza in 1999, was admitted to the ICU of zoo hospital for last 20 days. However, she breathed its last at around 5.30 AM today, added Das.

With the death of Rebati, the number of tigers in Nandankanan has come down to 24 including 16 normal coloured and eight white tigers, said an official statement of the Nandankanan Zoo adding that there are 12 tigress now.
