Berhampur: In a crackdown on wood mafias in the district, forest officials seized a vehicle from Asura Bandha area under Ghumusara South Division Forest and seized sawn teak wood worth around Rs 60,000 from it.
The raid was conducted late in the night yesterday after Sorada Forest Range office got a tip-off on the wood mafias. A team of forest officials led by Bhagwan Bisoyi and Conservator of Forest Mohan Chandra Pradhan intercepted a Max Pick-Up van after chasing it in Asura Bandha forest later in the night and seized several pieces of sawn teak wood from it.
However, the wood mafias managed to give forest officials a slip during the raid.
The seized wood laden vehicle has been detained at the Sorada Forest Range office and investigation is on to trace the absconding wood mafias.
