Puri: In a big relief for believers in Jagannath Culture in general and Tanka Torani lovers in particular, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA)  clarified on Sunday that there would be no blanket ban on the sale of the mouth watering recipe. .

According to SJTA sources, the total ban on Tanka Torani imposed on Saturday has been replaced by a limited ban aimed at controlling the sale of sub-standard and poor-quality stuff taking into account the sentiments of the devotees, who attach a religious significance to the recipe. The temple administration would keep a strict vigil on the sale of the recipe inside the Ananda Bazaar (market place of Mahaprasad) premises and would monitor it at regular intervals, they said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the SJTA this morning.

Notably, in an effort to bring in reforms in the temple administration, the SJTA had imposed a ban on sale of Tanka Torani (a mixture of curd, rice water, lemon leaves and green chilly) and Rabidi (Indian milk based dessert) inside the Anand Bazaar on Saturday. In an effort to enforce the ban, raids were conducted inside the Anand Bazaar sparking resentment among servitors and devotees, who argued that the restriction should be limited to unscrupulous sellers.
