Swami Agnivesh alleges attack by BJYM, ABVP activists in Jharkhand, 20 detained

Ranchi: Noted social activist Swami Agnivesh on Tuesday alleged that he was attacked and beaten up by suspected supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in at Littipara block of Pakur district in Jharkhand.

According to police, Agnivesh was attacked near his hotel while he was going to participate in the 195th Damin Mahotsav at Littpara.

The attackers first rushed towards him shouting slogans and waving black flags and later thrashed him.

The 78-year-old social activist fell down following the attack and his aides did their best to protect him. However, they attackers did not spare him.

It is suspected that he was attacked for making some anti-Hindu remarks a few days back.

After being attacked, Swami returned to the hotel and demanded a high level inquiry into the matter and stringent action against the attackers.

While Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das has ordered a probe into the matter, police have so far detained 20 of the attackers.
