Jajpur: At least three persons including a doctor was killed after the SUV they were travelling in smacked into a stationary truck from rear on NH-16 near Bandalo village in the district last night.
The deceased have been identified as Cuttack City Hospital doctor Paresh Kumar Mohaptra, Pharmacist Rajendra Samant and driver of the vehicle Manoj Nayak.
The trio who had been to Bhogarai in Balasore district to attend a marriage function and were returning to Cuttack late in the night, when the mishap took place. Driver of the Hyundai Creta they were travelling in failed to detect a trailer truck standing on the highway and ended up dashing against it. The collision was so severe that the SUV got stuck in the truck killing the trio on the spot.
Police rushed the bodies for postmortem to Badachana CHC reaching the spot later in the night.
The driver of the trailer truck involved in the mishap managed to flee from the spot following the crash and police are trying to trace him.
