Sundergarh: The district police arrested at least 52 protestors for allegedly ransacking properties of Suraj Sponge Iron company in Rajgangpur here on Monday.
According to reports, hundreds of people under the banner of Pathargadi Rudhibadi Manch had been protesting on the spot alleging that the company had illegally acquired their land. However, they went on a rampage today by ransacking the boundary wall and damaging machineries and other equipment on the premises of the company.
Sundergarh Collector, Rourkela Superintendent of Police (SP), DIG Kabita Jalan and other senior officials reached the spot after getting information and took stock of the situation.
The district administration has deployed two platoons of police force to avoid any untoward incident.
As many as 140 persons were earlier taken into preventive custody.
