Sudarsan creates sand sculpture on No Tobacco Day

Sudarsan's work on WNTD

Puri: Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand sculpture on Puri Sea beach on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) on Wednesday.

Pattnaik created the sand art with a message ‘Choice is yours; Don’t be Late’.

The WNTD is observed around the world on May 31every year since 1987. It is intended to encourage abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe.

The day is further intended to draw attention to the harmful effects of widespread prevalence of tobacco use, which currently lead to nearly 6 million deaths, including 600,000 non smokers exposed to second-hand smoke, worldwide each year.

Each year, the World Health Organization (WHO) selects a theme for the day in order to create a more unified global message for WNTD.

The theme for this year is “Tobacco – a threat to development.”
