Bhubaneswar: The denizens in Odisha will have to wait two more weeks to get respite from the summer heat as the regional Meteorological Department (IMD) here has predicted the monsoon onset in the state by June 10.

As per the Director, IMD regional centre Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, the southwest monsoon had hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands yesterday, due to which heavy rainfall lashed places like southeast Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands and entire south Andaman Sea starting from the morning. The weatherman had earlier predicted its advancement into Kerala by May 29.

While Sahu claimed that the monsoon is most likely to enter into Kerala within 48 hours, he maintained that it would hit the Odisha coast by June 10 only if the favourable condition exists. The final prediction could be made only after seasonal rain occurs in Kerala, he added.

The rainfall could increase in Odisha starting from June 3 due to the impact of the arrival of the monsoon.

The IMD has already predicted normal monsoon (97%) in the country this year.
