Cuttack: The 20-member special team from Simlipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district, which arrived in Niali on Tuesday, said that it would use drone cameras to trace the mystery animal that has killed more than 200 sheep in villages of Niali block in Cuttack district in the last two months.
“Based on the reports we have received from the forest officials here, we assume the killers to be wolves. However, we will be sure only after capturing their visuals on the cameras. We have around 100 camera traps and drone cameras and will use them in locating the wild animals. Given the number of cameras and team members, we hope to succeed today itself,” said BK Mohanty, retired Range Officer of Baripada Forest Division, who is one of the members of the special team.
Phulnakhara Forest officials tried all possible means from cracks to camera and special cages to awareness in a bid to trace and catch the wild animals. But they are still clueless about the identity of the killer animal, guessing it to be either wolves or hyenas. As a result, fear has gripped the people of the area.
