Sambalpur: Acting on a tip off, Sambalpur police along with the Commercial Tax Department officials seized silver items worth around Rs 1 crore from a four-wheeler here on Friday.
Cops have detained two persons for interrogation in this connection.
According to reports, the police laid a trap and intercepted a vehicle (Renault Duster SUV) bearing registration number CG04LE 9658 and seized a bag with silver ornaments weighing 245 kg and two silver bricks. The vehicle was moving from Raipur, capital city of Chhattisgarh, via Bargarh.
Sources said that these silver jewellery were being smuggled into the state from the neighbouring state to sell to jewellery shops to evade taxes.
