Shoe attack at Odisha CM: BJD stages peaceful protest near Gandhi statue

Bhubaneswar: Members of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday staged peaceful demonstration near Mahatma Gandhi statue at Janata Maidan here protesting yesterday’s shoes attack at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while he was campaigning for party candidate for the upcoming Bijepur bypoll.

Terming the attack is an act Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), BJD Spokesperson Sasmit Patra said, “We condemn the attack on the Chief Minister. This is a peaceful demonstration against the violence act of BJP”.

“We are following Gandhian ideology of peace and non-violence while the saffron party believes in goondaism and hooliganism,” he added.

Yesterday, a young man, identified as Kartik Meher from Padmapur area, threw shoes at the BJD supremo at Kumbhari under Barapali block in Bargarh district. However, the shoes did not touch the BJD star campaigner.

Earlier, the Chief Minister was attacked with eggs by a woman while he was addressing a public meeting at Talsari in Bhograi block of Balasore district on January 31.
