Sundergarh: In a shocking incident, Hemgiri police recovered the decomposed bodies of five persons of a family under mysterious circumstances from a closed house in Basundhara coal mine staff quarters on Monday.
The deceased persons have been identified as Ramprasad Sharma and his wife, son and two daughters.
Police are yet to ascertain the cause of their death.
The incident came to light when some locals informed about the matter to the police after foul smell emanated from the closed house. Police recovered the bodies after breaking open the door of the house, which was reportedly locked since last Friday.
Police said the exact reason behind the deaths can be ascertained only after the postmortem.
A scientific team is on the spot to investigate the case, which has created panic among the locals.
According to sources, Sharma, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was working in the coal mine as a labour contractor and was residing in the staff quarters.
