Shashi Kapoor dies at 79

Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai on Monday. He was 79. He is survived by his sons Karan and Kunal and daughter Sanjana Kapoor.

Shashi was born as Balbir Raj Kapoor to Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni Kapoor on March 18, 1938.

The legendary actor worked in over 175 films as an actor. He made his Bollywood debut in 1961, as the lead actor, in the film Dharmputra. He was the star of several Bollywood hits including Deewar, Junoon, Kalyug, Namak Halaal etc. He also produced and directed many hit films.

In 2011, Shashi was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for his contribution to Art-Cinema. In 2015, he was awarded the 2014 Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
