Sehwag recalls Odisha martyr Baji Rout on Children’s Day

Children's DayNew Delhi: Indian cricket legend Virender Sehwag on Tuesday recalled the youngest martyr of India’s freedom struggle Shaheed Baji Rout on the occasion of Children’s Day.

In a series of tweet, the former cricketer narrated about the bravery and patriotism of young Baji Rout, who was killed by the British police when the 12 year old boy courageously denied ferrying them across the Brahmani River at Nilakanthapur Ghat, Bhuban, Dhenkanal district in Odisha on the night of 11 October 1938.

“On this ChildrensDay it’s time we know about Shaheed Baji Rout ,from Nilakanthpur in Orissa ,the youngest Martyr of India’s freedom struggle. At the age of 12,this young boy was on guard of a country boat and was ordered by the British troop to ferry them across river Brahamani”, Sehwag wrote in twitter.

Sehwag has also supported an initiative by UNICEF that aims to promote sports in safe environment among children, irrespective of their background or ability.
