Bolangir: After a few days’ lull, Red error struck the district again with a gunbattle erupting between jawans of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) on Sunday night.
Reports say a combing party comprising CRPF and SOG personnel got a tip-off late yesterday night on the presence of some cadre Maoists in the Gandhamardan area near the Harishankar shrine. As the security personnel raided the spot, a fierce gunbattle erupted between the two sides.
Informing on the incident, Bolangir SP Siba Subramani said the encounter occurred after CRPF and SOG personnel acted upon specific information on Maoists assembling on the foothills of Gandhamardan on Sunday night when they were preparing for a routine combing operation in the area.
He said the gunbattle was continuing till the morning at regular intervals and details on the casualties, if any, could be given only after the operation concludes.
