New Delhi: In the latest development in Karnataka post poll scenario, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered for a floor test in the State Assembly on Saturday to let prove the newly sworn in Chief Minister B S Yedyurappa his majority.

The decision came after the hearing of a writ petition filed by the Congress-JD(S) coalition challenging Governor Vajubhai Vala’s invitation to the BJP to form the government.

A Supreme Court bench comprising of justices A K Sikri, S A Bobde and Ashok Bhushan made a hearing in the case and ordered for the floor test scheduled for 4 PM on Saturday. The bench felt that it would be better to get the floor test done rather than going into legality of Governor’s decision. It also raised a question on the governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision to invite the BJP to form the government.

In its judgment the court has also barred the governor from nominating any Anglo-Indian community member as MLA till the floor test is done and advised the Yeddyurappa government to not take any major policy decision.

In the recently concluded, Aseembly poll in Karnataka BJP emerged out as the single largest party with 104 seats. However it fall short eight short of the 112 magic number in the 222 member House. Although, the Congress and the JD(S) post poll coalition staked claim to form the government the governor allowed BJP for it instead.
