Puri: Pointing at the rampant corruption prevailing even at the grassroots level in the state, Gop Police arrested a former Sarpanch, block Vice Chairman and a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) in the district for embezzling government funds, today.
The arrested persons have been identified as former Gop Sarpanch Sulochana Swain, Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Nabakishore Nayak and former Vice Chairman of Gop block Niranjan Mohapatra.
The trio had been quizzed by the Gop Police yesterday, in connection to an allegation of embezzling government funds to the tune of Rs 12 lakh, under various projects in Rahangagorada village in 2017.
Separate complaints have been lodged against the trio at the State Panchayatiraj Department and Vigilance.
Gop BDO had also lodged a complaint in the case on October 14.
