Malkangiri: In yet another incident pointing at the deplorable healthcare facility in the remote patches of the state, a 50-year-old ailing man was taken to hospital in a cot in Chepalpada village under Khairaputa Block in the district on Friday.

The elderly man identified as Sanu Khila, who was sick since last couple of days and was getting treated by village quacks needed an immediate shifting to hospital due to deteriorating condition last night. In absence of a motorable road making the ambulance service inaccessible for them the family members of Sanu carried him in a cot and reached Govindapalli Hospital after covering a distance of 7 kilometres on foot.

The patient is out of danger now after the treatment, said doctors treating him at the hospital.

Seeking immediate attention of the district administration over the issue, the residents of Chepalpada village, which accommodates at least 30 families have demanded a communicable road for the area at its earliest.
