Jodhpur:  A Jodhpur court on Thursday sentenced Bollywood actor Salman Khan to a five-year jail term in the 1998 blackbuck killing case. The actor has also been fined Rs 10,000.

However, the court acquitted his ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ co-actors Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre in the same case.

A fifth person, Dushyant Singh, a local from the area, has also been acquitted.

A prosecution lawyer said, Salman has been held guilty of killing two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur in October 1998 during the shooting of ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.

Following the sentencing, Salman Khan was taken into custody by the police inside the court premises in Jodhpur. He will soon be sent to the Jodhpur Central Jail.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri, while pronouncing the verdict in the case that had been under way for 20 years, called Salman a ‘habitual offender’.

Salman was facing charges under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act.
