‘Saksham Cyclothon’: Mob vandalise registration counter

Bhubaneswar: After being denied freebies, angry mob vandalised registration counter of ‘Saksham Cyclothon Bhubaneswar’ at Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday.

Hundreds of Bhubaneswar residents, who had done the online registration for the cyclotron, had queued to collect the free kit (T-Shirt, Helmet, Wrist Band and Back bag). However, they went on a rampage after they failed to get the kit.

The angry city dwellers alleged that the organisers had asked them to carry their photo ID proofs along with their email confirmation to collect the free kit on the 2nd and 3rd February between 11 AM and 7 PM from the registration counter at Gate No-4. However, despite having the documents they were not given the kits, fumed over which they vandalised the registration counter this evening. Besides, they alleged that the contact numbers (+91 955 606 1439, +91 797 821 2336) given for enquiry were switched-off.

Commissionerate Police rushed adequate police to the spot and took control of the situation.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is slated to flag off the first of its kind premier Cyclothon event tomorrow at 5 AM at the Kalinga Stadium.

The Cyclothon is being organized jointly by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and Oil Industry with sole purpose of bringing awareness among the people on need of Oil & Gas conservation.
