Ryan School Murder: SC seeks reply from Centre, Haryana Govt & CBSE

Supreme Court of IndiaNew Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre and the Haryana government after the father of a seven-year-old boy, who was brutally murdered inside Gurgaon’s Ryan International School, filed a petition seeking a CBI probe into the case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra also sought a response from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on the plea, which has sought framing of guidelines to fix responsibility on school managements in case of such incidents and also regarding the safety and security of children.

During the brief hearing, the bench observed that the petition filed by Varun Chandra Thakur, is not restricted only to the school concerned as it has a country-wide ramifications. The bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, asked the governments and the CBSE to respond within three weeks.

The boy, a class II student, was found lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit in the washroom of the upmarket Gurgaon School on September 8.

Ashok Kumar, one of the school’s bus conductors, allegedly killed the boy while trying to sexually abuse him. The accused was arrested the same day.
