New Delhi: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave its nod for implementation of umbrella scheme of “Modernisation of Police Forces (MPF)” for three years (2017-18 to 2019-20).
Speaking to media persons here after the meeting, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, the internal security, law and order, women security, weapons procurement, hiring of helicopters and other requirements will be covered under the MPF scheme.
The Minister said, “the scheme has 3 thousand crore rupees as central assistance for 35 worst Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts. It will also have 100 crore rupees outlay for North Eastern States for police infrastructure up-gradation, training institutes and investigation facilities”.
“The states will get 2.5 times more as compared to the previous provision, under the new scheme”, he added.

The total financial outlay for the scheme over the three year period is Rs.25,060 crore, out of which the Union Government’s share will be Rs.18,636 crore and the States’ share will be Rs.6,424 crore.
